About the Role:

The Yard Hand plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall organization, safety, and efficiency of the yard operations within our facility in Canada. This position is responsible for assisting with the loading, unloading, and movement of materials and equipment, ensuring that all yard activities are conducted in a timely and safe manner. The Yard Hand supports the team by performing general maintenance tasks, keeping the yard clean and orderly, and assisting with inventory management. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently as well as part of a team to support daily operational goals. Ultimately, the Yard Hand contributes to the smooth functioning of yard logistics, which directly impacts the productivity and success of the broader organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid forklift operator certification or equivalent experience operating yard equipment.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
• Basic understanding of workplace safety standards and practices.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Full G Class Drivers License and a clean driving abstract

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working as a Yard Hand or in a similar role within logistics or warehousing.
• Familiarity with inventory management systems and basic computer skills.
• Experience with minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of Canadian workplace health and safety regulations.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends as required.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers using appropriate equipment and tools.
• Organize and maintain the yard area to ensure it is clean, safe, and free of hazards.
• Operate yard equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or other machinery in compliance with safety standards.
• Support inventory control by tracking materials and reporting discrepancies to supervisors.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on yard equipment and report any major issues.
• Coordinate with drivers, warehouse staff, and supervisors to facilitate efficient yard operations.
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

The Yard Hand utilizes physical strength and stamina daily to handle materials and operate equipment safely and efficiently. Attention to detail is essential when organizing the yard and tracking inventory to prevent errors and maintain order. Communication skills are used to coordinate with team members and supervisors, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to safety protocols. Problem-solving skills come into play when performing minor equipment maintenance or addressing unexpected challenges in yard operations. Pay: 20-25$ per hour. Please note that this is a seasonal role typically running from April to November.
