PERMANENT FULLTIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Water Systems Operator – Water & Sanitation Department
Salary: $55k to $60k per year Based on experience
JOB SUMMARY:
Sagamok Anishnawbek is seeking a dedicated and skilled Water Systems Operator to join our team on a permanent basis. This role is essential to ensuring safe, reliable, and high-quality water services for our community. Reporting to the Operator in Charge, the Water Systems Operator will play a key role in water treatment, quality monitoring, distribution, and community outreach.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Must have good knowledge of computers, including monitoring and operating systems.
- Operate and monitor water treatment and distribution systems
- Perform water quality testing and analysis
- Implement and monitor boil water advisories
- Conduct preventive maintenance and troubleshoot operational issues
- Maintain accurate logs and prepare reports
- Collaborate with other departments and engage with the community
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Knowledge of and respect for Anishnawbek history, values, teachings, culture, and traditions is of critical importance.
- Ability to perform some heavy lifting and physical labour.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative.
- Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of people including coworkers, community members, suppliers, while keeping accurate logs and writing reports.
- Ability to understand and speak Ojibwe will be considered a definite asset.
- Local knowledge and understanding of Sagamok Anishnawbek’s services will be considered an asset.
- Valid class “G” driver’s license in good standing.
- Able to travel on short notice.
- Able to work flexible hours on short notice and including afterhours and weekends.
- Sign and comply with an annual Oath of Confidentiality.
- Must provide a Criminal Records Check prior to commencing employment.
- Incumbent is subject to six months’ probation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Operator-in-Training license in Water Treatment and Distribution (Class 1 preferred)
- Strong computer skills, including monitoring and operating systems
- Familiarity with relevant legislation (e.g., OHSA, Canadian Environmental Act)
- Ability to interpret technical documents such as manuals and blueprints
- Hold or willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certificate, WHIMIS, Working at Heights, Fall Arrest lock and tag out and Confine Space.
- Physically capable of outdoor work in all weather conditions and heavy lifting
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge and respect for Anishnawbek values, history, culture, and traditions
- Understanding Sagamok Anishnawbek’s services is an asset
- Ability to speak and understand Ojibwe is a definite asset
