About the role
Our client is a family-owned manufacturing SME that has been established in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region for nearly 40 years. The company specializes in custom and high-volume manufacturing of metal products made from precision sheet metal processing. Employing approximately 40 to 50 team members, it stands out for the quality of its workmanship, its close relationships with customers, and its ability to deliver a wide variety of technical projects. The organization is currently experiencing significant growth and is actively pursuing a major modernization program involving both equipment and processes.
Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the successful candidate will oversee all activities from the receipt of customer orders and raw materials through to the shipment of finished products. They will manage production operations as well as technical and quality functions while leading a team of approximately 30 employees working in a highly autonomous environment.
This is not a turnaround mandate, but rather an opportunity to further structure execution, increase production capacity, and support an already thriving business. This strategic role is ideal for someone who enjoys gaining a deep understanding of operations, making decisions, and quickly turning observations into concrete actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all production activities to ensure priorities, deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Lead, motivate, and develop supervisors and production teams within a unionized and highly autonomous environment.
- Oversee technical and quality functions, including programming, design, production preparation, process feasibility, and compliance with customer requirements.
- Develop and monitor performance indicators related to productivity, profitability, workforce efficiency, delivery timelines, quality, and equipment reliability.
- Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing work methods, production flows, and equipment utilization.
- Foster close collaboration between production, sales, procurement, human resources, and other business functions.
- Participate in investment decisions, the integration of new technologies, and the organization’s strategic planning.
- Perform any other duties related to the position.

Requirements
Must-Haves :
- Proven experience in production management, supervision, or team leadership within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to understand operational priorities, organize work effectively, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with both autonomous shop-floor teams and senior management.
- Results-driven mindset with a strong focus on action, problem-solving, decision-making, and execution.
- Integrity, sound judgment, humility, curiosity, and the ability to communicate openly with employees, customers, suppliers, and business partners.
Nice-to-Haves :
- College diploma (DEC) or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in mechanics and experience in metal fabrication or processes such as laser cutting, bending, welding, assembly, or powder coating.
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement and change management methodologies.
- Experience with ERP systems or production planning and management software.
- Experience in a unionized environment, overseeing technical or quality functions, or managing equipment and capital investment projects.
Salary: $150,000 per year, flexible based on experience
