About the role
CMHA Kelowna is hiring a full-time Cleaner/Maintenance Worker. This position offers 37.5 hours per week with a schedule of Monday – Friday, 6am-2pm.
WHO IS A CLEANER/MAINTENANCE WORKER?
The Cleaner/Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing cleaning duties across our facilities, ensuring that all locations meet our cleanliness standards. Additionally, this role assists our Maintenance Team with various tasks as needed.
WHAT DOES A CLEANER/MAINTENANCE WORKER DO?
Cleaning
- Perform sanitization and sterilization of surfaces, toilets, counters, flooring, and floorboards
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum all areas to maintain cleanliness
- Clean entryways, sidewalks, and ensure the property is well maintained
Maintenance Support
- Assist with moving furniture and performing general repairs
- Apply paint and other finishes as required
- Collaborate with maintenance staff on various projects and tasks
Performs other related duties as assigned
YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a cleaning role
- Ability to travel between facilities and other locations on a frequent/occasional basis in personal vehicle or company provided van
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license
- Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector
- Ability to be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/or recovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental health challenges and/or mental illness
- Ability to be regularly exposed to and in direct contact with dust, dirt, and germs, and occasional human bio-products
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Certificates in First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone considered an asset
- Experience in cleaning commercial buildings is considered an asset
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with team members and take direction from supervisors
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Friendly and approachable demeanor to foster a positive work atmosphere
- Ability to maintain consistent professional boundaries
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Proficient in operating cleaning equipment, including vacuums, carpet cleaners, and small power tools
- Basic knowledge of maintenance tasks and tools is preferred
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong attention to detail to ensure all cleaning and maintenance tasks meet established standards
- Capacity to learn and apply new skills related to cleaning and maintenance
