Reporting to the Foreman, the Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the excavator. The operator will also perform assigned duties to ensure that the completed work meets contract specifications.
How You’ll Add Value
- Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
- Operate an excavator and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment
- Conduct pre-operational checks, and clean, lubricate, and refill equipment as needed
- Collaborate with ground personnel in the excavation and installation of pipes, ensuring proper line and grade
- Ensure trenches are excavated to the correct depth and grade
- Oversee the placement of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipes in the excavation
- Follow ground crew instructions for craning, gravel placement, and grading
- Minimize excavation time to maintain production schedule while cutting grade
- Perform trench work in compliance with OH&S regulations
- Ensure proper rigging of pipes, manhole barrels, and other materials, adhering to safe procedures during material lowering
What You Bring
- 2+ years of experience operating an excavator is required
- 3+ years of experience in heavy civil construction operations
- Hold a valid Class 5 Operator’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits
- Physically capable of lifting and carrying at least 20 lbs regularly
- Knowledge of underground construction materials, underground construction processes and industry requirements
- Proficient in operating excavators/hoes and other heavy equipment
Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
