Reporting to the Superintendent, the Concrete Foreman - Flat Work is responsible for leading crews through all phases of flatwork concrete construction. This role combines hands-on concrete expertise with crew supervision, planning, and quality control to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
How You’ll Add Value
- Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
- Lead and supervise concrete crews performing flatwork including slabs, sidewalks, curb and gutter, aprons, and pads
- Set the standard for safety by actively promoting and enforcing Volker Stevin’s safety culture on site
- Plan daily work activities, coordinatemanpower, equipment, and materials to meet schedule and production targets
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and grade requirements to ensure accuracy and quality
- Oversee formwork layout, granular base preparation, reinforcing steel placement, and concrete pours
- Ensure proper placement, screeding, finishing, jointing, curing, and protection of concrete surfaces
- Coordinate with batch plants, truck drivers, operators, and other trades to support smooth pours
- Monitor concrete quality, finish standards, and tolerances, addressing deficiencies as they arise
- Install and verify placement of embedded items such as anchor bolts, sleeves, and plates
- Train, mentor, and support crew members to build skill, accountability, and teamwork
- Complete daily reporting, time tracking, and production documentation
- Work in various outdoor conditions including inclement weather, heat, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
What You Bring
- 5+ years ofhands-on concreteexperiencewith a strong focus on flatwork
- 2+ years of experienceleading crews or acting ina foreman/lead hand capacity
- Strongunderstandingof flatwork framework, grades,finishesand concrete best practices
- Physically able to safely lift and carry 50 lbs regularly
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
- Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
