The School
G.S. Lakie Middle School serves approximately 540 students and is located on the west side of Lethbridge. Lakie is proud to support its diverse learning community through inclusive educational opportunities for all students and families to access. The staff strives to provide a quality education in a caring environment so that students can become life-long learners and responsible, contributing members of an ever-changing society. In addition to supporting the development of students’ skills in Fine Arts and Athletics, Lakie is excited to be offering their growing Spanish Bilingual program for all grades 6 through 8. Subjects
G.S Lakie Middle School is seeking a grade 7 or 8 Spanish Teacher to join their team at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year! The successful candidate will be responsible to teach grade 7 or 8 core subjects in Spanish, with the possibility of teaching Math and Science in English, as well as option class that will be assigned prior to the position commencing. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in supporting students, have an unwavering belief that every child is a capable learner and will:
- Be committed to strong collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills;
- Have the ability to offer engaging, innovative lessons, and to differentiate to meet the needs and styles of all learners;
- Have the ability to develop a genuine relationship with students and a willingness to connect with families;
- Possess a willingness to contribute to take an active part in committees, the school community, and school initiatives;
- Have a formal education in Math and/or Science (preferred);
- Have previous experience teaching Options at the Middle School level (considered an asset).
Requirements
- Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
- Fluent in both English and Spanish, both written and oral.
Conditions of Employment
In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.

Lethbridge School Division takes pride in the breadth of its programs, the expertise of its staff, the quality of its facilities in 23 schools, and a number of outreach facilities throughout the city. Our schools have a grade structure comprised of Kindergarten to Grade 5 students in elementary schools, Grade 6 to Grade 8 students in middle schools and Grade 9 to Grade 12 students in high schools.
All schools provide instruction in the core subjects (language arts, mathematics, social studies and science), physical education, and the fine arts. Students at each school have access to libraries that provide a blend of print materials and access to modern computers for research purposes. French language instruction is provided in grades four through twelve and a French Immersion program is offered for students from kindergarten through Grade 12. Spanish, German and Japanese courses are also available.
