About the role
OVERVIEW:
The Dispatcher oversees the daily transport dispatch operation for a 30+ truck operation. This includes load planning based on daily pricing and ensures maximum driver/load efficiency. The role is based in-office at the Company's Head Office in Maxville, Ontario.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews schedules, requisitions, loads, running times, distances, staffing availability, product pricing and other pertinent information to establish schedule parameters.
- Creates price-conscious delivery plans, optimizing loads and use of vehicles.
- Coordinates and builds efficient loads to remain cost-effective as a company, combining shipments based on their routes and timeline to minimize runouts.
- Analyzes, builds, dispatches and updates load using industry-specific computer software.
- Uses dispatch software, company-specific programs, and GPS monitoring software to track, dispatch, and update vehicle operators.
- Monitors ongoing communication and dispatching throughout the shift.
- Maintains appropriate communications between customers (retail and dealer sites) and dispatch to facilitate flawless operations.
- Incorporates variable factors into route plans, such as peak travel periods, holidays, special events, and construction, with an emphasis on time and cost-efficiency.
- Assigns personnel to equipment and routes and schedule to work shifts.
- Compiles equipment and personnel records, including hours of service, distances, maintenance, repairs required and other data, to produce operating reports.
- Processes and transmits information to coordinate the activities of vehicle operators.
- Advises vehicle operators of route, weight, and size restrictions and other pertinent information.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Previous experience as a vehicle dispatcher is essential.
- Previous fuel dispatch experience would be a significant asset.
- The ability to communicate in both official languages would be an advantage.
- Interpersonal skills: In dealing with a diverse pool or internal and external stakeholders, the ideal candidate maintains a professional and positive work environment based on respect.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- A high degree of computer literacy is essential.
- The ability to analyze and evaluate information used to make sound business decisions.
- Exceptional communications skills, both verbal and written.
- The ability to multi-task and juggle competing deadlines and multiple priorities.
- The ability and willingness to work shift schedule, including days, weekends, and holidays.
- This role requires the successful candidate to participate in an on-call, out-of-hours rotation.

The salary range for this role is between $62,000.00 and $68,000 per year. Salaries are based on years of relevant experience and education.
