The Opportunity
SRY is looking for a dedicated and hardworking incumbent who is experienced in the maintenance and operations of the railroad; if this describes you, we want YOU!
Reporting to the Manager, Track Maintenance, the incumbent will have a wide array of responsibilities to keep their day going which may include the following, but not limited to:
- Performing manual labor functions, such as tie replacement, shoveling, tamping, brush cutting and other maintenance related tasks;
- Operating track machines, tools and equipment as required;
- Operating and maintaining track switches as needed;
- Operating company vehicles; and
- Communicating via radio with crew members and workers in the office regarding rail transportation work to be performed.

The Ideal Person The successful incumbent will:
- Possess minimum grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent;
- Preferably hold a Track Inspection Geometry Certificate;
- Have experience operating railway maintenance equipment (tamper/regulator/loader) – preferred;
- Experience as a skilled tradesperson is an asset;
- Have a mechanical background and a knack for problem-solving;
- Hold a valid BC driver's license, minimal Class 5, Class 3 and airbrake endorsement is an asset; and
- Have physical ability to perform manual labor functions outdoors in all weather conditions.
Additional information:
- An incumbent who posse full track maintenance experience may advance to a higher job class;
- This job requires the incumbent to work outdoors in ALL weather conditions, and walk extended distances over uneven terrain;
- Occasional ability to work any shift, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays; and
- Safety is a core value of SRY which means adherence to safety procedures/guidelines and wearing proper safety personal protective equipment is required.
