About the role
Position: Room Based Attendant Department: Ambulatory/Endoscopy Clinics
The Room-Based Attendant supports all aspects of patient care throughout the surgical experience under the direction of the appropriate healthcare professional, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities include maintaining essential stock supplies within the Ambulatory Clinics and assisting with patient care activities. This includes supporting patients’ physical needs while ensuring safety, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of a Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Patient Porter experience required
- Knowledge of housekeeping techniques required
- Knowledge of instrument cleaning and handling required
- Knowledge of Aseptic technique and Infection Prevention and Control required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) required (recent within the last twelve months)
- Safe patient Handling (transfer and lift) training is required
- Experience with all methods of transportation of patients is required
- Must be available for scheduled shifts and call-ins
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment required
- Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) experience an asset
- Certificate in Central Service Technique Course or equivalent course an asset
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to work with minimal supervision required
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team required
- Must meet the physical demands of the position:
- Assist with patient/or equipment transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds or stretchers (up to approximately 28 kg push/pull force)
- Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment (4.0 kg to 8.0 kg push/pull force and 1.0 kg to 12 kg lift/lower force).
- Good attendance and work record required
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
