Youth Outreach Worker
Full-Time Permanent Opportunity
The Opportunity:
The Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) works with our youth team to engage and support youth and to encourage them to live life better. The YOW role focuses on community building and outreach to teens and preteens in our neighborhood which involves building relationships, not only with youth, but also with our partners and other community agencies. This work involves providing 1:1 support, group facilitation, facilitating drop-in programs, school presentations, out-trips, and larger community events. Our team’s emphasis is on prevention and restoration focused on youth aged 10 to 24.
Contract Details:
- Full-time permanent position, working 35 hours per week, primarily Monday thru Friday.
- Hourly wage is $22.00 – 26.00.
- Position includes three (3) weeks paid vacation, employee extended health, dental & wellness benefits, including a health spending account, EFAP & a professional development allowance, plus free parking and/or very close to transit & amenities.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- With a purpose of connecting with Youth, the expectation and responsibilities of this role include going out into our community to facilitate groups and events at local schools and other venues; this work extends support to youth beyond regular school hours utilizing Parkgate Society physical space to host groups, create safe and fun spaces in person and virtually.
- This role is to connect and partner with other Youth Centre staff, volunteers, and community partners, to support and empower youth in the Mount Seymour, Blueridge and Deep Cove areas.
- Establish supportive relationships with youth, working with them individually as needed to encourage their best selves.
- Work closely with the Youth Services Supervisor in support of programs; develop an understanding of programming needs, recruitment, and how to effectively collaborate with Youth Centre staff and volunteers.
- With the purpose of connecting with our community, this role liaises with schools, other youth outreach workers, parents, local health authorities, RCMP, and other related professionals in the field to promote the well-being of youth in our community.
- Must have a sound social media competency to effectively communicate with youth, guardians, and partnering organizations and through promotion and recruitment, encourage participation in our programs and services; must be proficient in content creation through Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Canva, and other social media platforms which is on brand with Parkgate Society and with Parkgate Youth Services values.
- Strong ability and interest to connect with our team by being an active and participating member of our staff team and by attending regular meetings and planning sessions.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- At least two (2) years’ experience working with youth 10 to 24 years old.
- Strong team player, with amazing people & communication skills and a proven track record of building and maintaining effective relationships with youth, parents, community partners, co-workers and volunteers.
- A demonstrated passion for youth and youth-related issues.
- Particularly strong and natural in connecting with youth, parents & schools, and other outside organizations.
- Exceptional organizational skills, you keep files tight and know where to find your keys.
- Able to effectively receive and provide regular and open feedback with ease, particularly in working collaboratively through client & program goals.
- Takes initiative naturally & respectfully and works well independently on work aligned to the goals & objectives of the team.
- Previous learning and/or experiences that demonstrates interest in & knowledge of best practices in the field of child and youth care.
- Good familiarity with social media and the ability to curate reflective and relevant posts.
Other Requirements:
- Clear Criminal Records Check for Vulnerable Persons
- Current First Aid Certification (with CPR)
- FoodSafe and High Five certificate training are required within the first 90 days of employment
- A valid BC driver's license is an asset.
