About the role
The Intermediate 3 Axis Machinist (afternoon shift) operates computer numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate parts per engineering specifications with supervision. The Intermediate Machinist sets up jobs with limited supervision.
1- Training, Experience, Education and Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree or diploma from College or vocational school in CNC machining is strongly desired and most preferred.
- 5 years plus experience running a CNC mill or recent Machinist Tech Training Certificate
- Proven ability to consistently run good parts that meet production standards
- Strong skills and aptitude in math
- Ability to perform basic functions with MS Windows-based computer operating systems
- Highly organized with a keen eye for details
- Able to self-organize and follow instructions independently
- Able to read and interpret part drawings, specifications and requirements
- Able to read, speak, write and understand English.
- Good Inspection Skills and Blueprint reading skills with ability to use all shop inspection tools.
- Good Troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work with small pieces (Hand dexterity)
- Manual dexterity and sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and crouching.
- Lifting and/or exerting of force up to 50 pounds frequently and team lifting heavier items.
- Positive attitude and reliable
- Properly uses measuring tools and set up tools such as edge finder, indicator, micrometers, etc.
- Able to work in collaborative team environment, willing to share ideas, problem solve, and troubleshoot with co-workers, other departments within CIL, and customers.
**2-**General Duties and Responsibilities
1- Be punctual in attending working hours and scheduled meeting.
2- Maintains a clean working environment around machines used. Sweeps and mops floors to get rid of any chips or debris. Table is organized and free of unused folders, fixtures, tools and gauges.
3- Have the ability to accept and follow the instructions from the responsible party.
4- Demonstrate diligence in continuously seeking quality requirement and follow general safety measures.
5- Train new employees on their related duties
6- Ensure and facilitate verbal and written communication with all disciplines in and interdepartmental.
7- Keen understanding of shop practices, and procedures. High scanning efficiency, transferring finished parts to proper location for next operation.
8- Follow the department’s specific established policies and procedures at all times.
9- Use efficiently the resources at work.
10- Respect privacy and confidentiality of all internal and external customers.
11- Understand CIL mission and support goals and objectives.
1- Job Related Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow quality management system policies and procedures as per AS 9100 International Standard
- Maintain and fill out in-process inspection sheets for every job.
- Fill out records, work orders or production related records, as required.
- Deburr first off and production parts where possible.
- Demonstrate ability to set-up, run, and dimensionally maintain quality in a production environment
- Ability to recognize production problems such as out-of-tolerance Machining, poor finishes, and are able to correct them.
- Able to gather/select, load, and measure correct tools, and holders for the job using a gauge block.
- Skilled in the use of measuring tools and equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, thread gauges, and plug gauges, and optical comparator).
- Ability to set up, operate and maintain machines and tools.
- Ability to pick up datums using an edge finder.
- Ability to recognize and address problems in the production process.
- Ability to troubleshoot and make adjustments in machine control to bring parts back to tolerance without the help of a lead hand.
- Ability to set up measuring tools.
- Ability to set up boring bars, and bore gauges.
- Ability to line up fixtures or parts with either a flat or pins, using an indicator.
- Ability to indicate bores, bosses and pins using an indicator.
- Ability to check tool run out.
- Knowledge on selecting the right holders for the right tools.
- Versatility across multiple machine centres is a plus
- Meets job standard times with minimal supervision.
- Maintains a production efficiency of 75% or higher.
- Maintains a First Pass Acceptance rate of 60% or higher on repeat jobs.
- Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures
- Completes additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Follow applicable work instructions and maintain appropriate records.
