Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the OMAFA-University of Guelph Agreement, theSystems Analyst plays a vital role in advancing agri-food research. You will be responsible for the maintenance, security, and performance of IT infrastructure across various ARIO-owned Research Centres, ensuring that high volumes of research and operational data are accessible and secure.
In this role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of IT infrastructure across several research centres, with a major focus on supporting physical hardware—including cabling, network equipment, and servers—while performing on-site troubleshooting and maintaining detailed technical documentation. You will ensure the stability and security of local network and server environments by administering system patches, managing backups, and implementing cybersecurity measures in alignment with university policies. Beyond core maintenance, you will drive research innovation by leading the integration of IoT devices and partnering with researchers to provide scalable technology solutions and technical training. Additionally, you will serve as the primary help desk resource for faculty and students, act as a key liaison between research sites and central IT services, and stay ahead of emerging trends in rural connectivity and research computing.
Requirements
*Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. *Minimum of 18 months of previous experience in an IT support or network administrator role *Proficiency in Network Administration (performance and security) *Hands-on experience with Windows and Linux operating systems, routers, switches, and firewalls *Familiarity with server hardware, virtual machines, and backup/recovery methodologies *CompTIA or related certifications are considered a strong asset *A valid driver’s license *Comfortable working in research station environments (barns), including live animal facilities
