About the role
PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners. Together, we are delivering Accelerator, a major program of Pearson LIFT (Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), Toronto Pearson's infrastructure development plan. This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada’s largest airport for the future of air travel—including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience. JOB SUMMARY The Environmental Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities within the PACT program comply with applicable environmental regulations, project-specific environmental management plans, and industry best practices. This role plays a critical part in supporting sustainable construction practices while minimizing environmental impacts across project sites. RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, as well as project permits and approvals. Monitor construction activities for adherence to Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) measures, and Spill Prevention Plans. Identify and document environmental risks, non-compliance issues, and potential impacts to soil, air, water, and wildlife. Prepare detailed inspection reports, including observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and photographic records. Maintain accurate environmental logs, monitoring data, and regulatory documentation for audits and reporting requirements. Support internal and external environmental audits and regulatory inspections. Respond to environmental incidents (e.g., spills, unauthorized discharges, wildlife disturbances) and ensure proper containment, reporting, and remediation actions are implemented. Provide recommendations for corrective actions and follow-up to ensure resolution. Work closely with construction managers, subcontractors, engineers, and environmental consultants to promote compliance and environmental awareness. Communicate environmental requirements and site expectations to field teams and subcontractors. Liaise with regulatory agencies as required. Promote sustainable construction practices, waste reduction, and pollution prevention initiatives. Monitor waste management processes, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Support with environmental training and toolbox talks for site personnel. Support with other duties as needed. WORKING CONDITIONS Your work schedule will be during site hours. Flexibility to work nights and weekends, as required by the construction schedule, is expected. Any schedule changes or on-call requirements will be managed in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation. It is mandatory for all employees to complete a Criminal Background check and successfully attain a Restricted Access Identity Card (RAIC) upon joining the company. WHAT YOU BRING Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline. Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or similar designation is considered an asset. Erosion & Sediment Control certification is considered an asset. 5+ years of environmental inspection experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, or large-scale development projects. Strong knowledge of Ontario environmental regulations and guidelines (e.g., MECP standards, ECA requirements). Experience with carbon reporting frameworks or sustainability programs is an asset. Experience with large infrastructure or transportation projects is an asset. Experience conducting environmental monitoring, inspections, and audits. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and manage documentation. Proactive problem‑solver with strong organizational skills.
