About the role
Primary Objective of the Position
The Shift Manager, CMC is responsible for executing and supporting day-to-day
flight operations during assigned shifts in the Cargojet Movement Control Centre. Reporting to the Manager, CMC Operations and working closely with the Duty Manager, this role ensures accurate flight tracking, operational reporting, and timely communication with internal teams and customers to maintain Cargojet’s network performance and service quality. The Shift Manager is a key member of the frontline operations team, providing hands-on coordination and system updates in a 24/7 environment.
Job Duties
- Monitor daily flight activity and assist in managing delays, disruptions, and real-time schedule adjustments.
- Support the Duty Manager in coordinating across departments including Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Stations, and Maintenance.
- Help implement contingency actions during irregular operations (IROPS), such as weather or mechanical events.
- Assist in coordinating charter and ad hoc flight movements across network stakeholders.
- Record and maintain accurate flight information (arrival, departure, delay codes) in CHAMPS and other systems.
- Prepare and distribute operational reports, including on-time performance (OTP), pre-operation summaries, and missed delivery scan audits.
- Assist with aircraft weight and balance documentation and flight manifest creation.
- Enter and audit customs submissions through CHAMPS/Descartes.
- Communicate flight status and service impacts to internal departments and customers.
- Ensure proper shift handover communication with the incoming Shift Manager and Duty Manager.
- Escalate critical issues or emerging risks to the Duty Manager in a timely manner.
- Contribute to data accuracy in systems such as ISO, and other flight management tools.
- Identify and report operational inefficiencies or recurring issues for process improvement consideration.
- Perform other duties as required to support safe, efficient operations.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in airline, airport, logistics, or operations centre environments preferred.
- Familiarity with flight tracking, cargo movement, and/or customs systems is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask under time pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in Aviation, Transportation, or Logistics is an asset.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
