In this role, reporting to the Senior Regional Internal Audit Manager (Sr. RIAM), the Junior Regional Internal Auditor for the Ontario-East Region will assist in the coordination of internal audit engagements across a portfolio of three school boards in the region. The role necessitates a deep awareness and sensitivity toward the evolving environment within school boards, communities, portfolio and province. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional looking to grow their career within a supportive, mission-driven environment. Evening work and overtime would be required based on portfolio requirements.
Job Description:
- Work closely with the Senior Regional Internal Auditor in the full audit lifecycle from annual strategic planning and risk assessment to the execution of complex financial and operational audits.
- Assist in the creation of the risk-based annual internal audit plan.
- Develop Terms of Reference, draft and finalize audit programs that reflect the specific risk profile of the project for Sr. RIAM approval.
- Act as a primary point of contact for auditees to determine logistics and gather preliminary information.
- Assist in developing data extraction queries and leveraging data analytics to inform audit focus.
- Execute financial, operational, and compliance audits, performing rigorous testing of controls.
- Maintain working paper files, ensuring all evidence meets professional auditing standards.
- Identify potential project delays and proactively devise solutions to keep audits on schedule.
- Communicate regularly with clients and the Sr. RIAM regarding project status.
- Identify control deficiencies and perform thoughtful analysis to develop practical, value-added recommendations.
- Share preliminary findings with clients to ensure accuracy and foster cooperation.
- Draft comprehensive audit reports and coordinate with clients to obtain management’s answers to the recommendations and action plan.
- Assist in presenting audit results and consulting project insights to the Audit Committee.
Required Qualifications:
- University Degree specializing in accounting, finance or computer science
- Holds at least one professional designation (CPA, CA, CPA, CMA, CPA, CGA, CIA,CISA, CFE, MBA)
- Three (3) years of internal or external audit experience
- Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office products (Word, EXCEL, VISIO and PowerPoint) and Audit Management software
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills (oral, reading, written)
- Ability to execute assigned project plans within tight project deadlines
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and assignments
- Displays sound judgment in assessing the significance of risks or problems
- Must be willing to travel to the nine Board locations of the Eastern Ontario of Region (up to 60% of time)
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
In addition, the following will be considered an asset:
- Previous School Board experience
- Internal audit designation (CIA)
- Designation in risk management, risk assessment, information technology audit (CISA, CRM, CRMA)
- Working knowledge of Power BI
This is a permanent full time (1.0 FTE) position with an annual salary range of $95,098 - 103,153. A comprehensive benefits and pension plan are also available.
The anticipated start date will be as soon as the recruitment process is complete.
