Job Description
This position is responsible for preparing standard samples for basic mechanical and metallurgical tests. To engage in on the job training to develop the skills and knowledge to be a fully qualified journey-level machinist SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain registration as a machinist apprentice Attend apprenticeship education classes at prescribed intervals, in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor. Study specifications, charts, drawings or sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed Set-up and operate various machining equipment such as lathes, mills, surface grinders and saws in order to machine or grind components to precise customer specifications; Use measurement tools to ensure accuracy Calculate dimensions and tolerances, and prepare working sketches if necessary Measure and mark metal and other materials Follow test sample preparation guidelines Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions Maintain traceability Organize coupons Package and shrink wrap products Carry out pick-up and delivery of products Qualifications Education: Candidates must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience: In process or having completed period 1, 2, 3, 4 of the appreniceship program for machinist or a Machining Technology Diploma 1 – 3 years of previous experience in a machinist-related profession is a strong asset REQUIRED SKILLS Have excellent math & mechanical skills/aptitude The ability & desire to do precision work The ability to use their hands skillfully and quickly The ability to use hand and power tools The ability to estimate and measure sizes and lengths accurately Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to handle items weighing up to 25 kilograms; The ability to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort basic computer knowledge Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Outlook). Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
