Senior Technical Writer & Knowledge Architect (35427)
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer & Knowledge Architect to lead the modernization of enterprise technical documentation supporting complex communications, networking, cloud, and hardware platforms.
This is much more than a traditional technical writing role. The successful candidate will transform years of engineering documentation into a structured, searchable knowledge platform that supports engineers, field technicians, operations teams, enterprise customers, and AI-powered support systems.
Working closely with Systems Engineering, Software Development, Network Engineering, Product Management, Customer Support, and AI teams, you will establish documentation standards, build a centralized knowledge repository, and prepare engineering content for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Large Language Model (LLM) applications.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Documentation Strategy
Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation for hardware, software, networking, cloud infrastructure, and operational systems. Create installation guides, deployment manuals, user guides, configuration documentation, API documentation, troubleshooting guides, release notes, and operational procedures. Partner with engineering teams to ensure documentation accurately reflects product capabilities and system architecture. Establish documentation standards, templates, and style guides across engineering organizations.
Knowledge Management & Content Architecture
Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing technical documentation and engineering knowledge repositories. Identify outdated, duplicate, or conflicting documentation and work with subject matter experts to establish a single source of truth. Design and implement an enterprise-wide knowledge architecture that organizes information logically across products, systems, and engineering disciplines. Build and maintain a highly searchable knowledge base supporting engineering teams, customers, and field operations.
AI Knowledge Management
Prepare documentation for AI-powered search platforms using structured authoring techniques. Optimize documentation for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, and Large Language Models (LLMs). Collaborate with AI engineers to improve knowledge retrieval, reduce hallucinations, and increase response accuracy. Develop metadata, taxonomy, tagging strategies, and document chunking methodologies for vector database ingestion.
Engineering Collaboration
Work closely with Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, RF Engineering, DevOps, Product Management, and Customer Support teams. Attend architecture reviews, design reviews, sprint planning sessions, and product demonstrations to understand evolving technical requirements. Interview subject matter experts to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation.
Content Quality & Governance
Establish documentation governance processes ensuring consistency, accuracy, and version control. Review documentation for technical accuracy, readability, grammar, formatting, and compliance with corporate standards. Maintain documentation lifecycle processes including updates, archival, release management, and publication workflows.
Training & Enablement
Develop technical training materials, quick-start guides, operational playbooks, and knowledge articles. Create onboarding documentation for engineers, field technicians, operations teams, and enterprise customers. Support internal training initiatives through technical presentations and instructional documentation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline. Minimum 7 years of experience as a Technical Writer, Knowledge Engineer, or Technical Documentation Specialist within telecommunications, networking, aerospace, cloud infrastructure, enterprise software, or related industries. Demonstrated experience documenting complex hardware and software systems. Experience working directly with engineering and product development teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with satellite communications, networking, telecommunications, cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems. Experience preparing technical content for AI platforms, semantic search, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, APIs, cloud networking, and virtualization.
