##Compensation Range
$41.13 - $59.12 CAD Hourly
The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

This position is part-time and is one day per week.
Work is performed at two long term care facilities in Vancouver.

Job Summary This position is for a Dental Hygienist, in the provision of dental hygiene care with focus on oral health maintenance of patients within two long term care (LTC) facilities, Simon KY Lee Seniors care home and Villa Cathay Care Home. The hygienist will be supporting the Geriatric Dentistry Program (GDP) to provide hygiene treatment as prescribed by GDP dentists. Students and visiting dentists may be in attendance for observation.
Organizational Status The Dental Hygienist position reports to the Program Director, who reports to the Dean.
Work Performed
- Reviewing patients’ charts and medical history and teledentistry referral information in FoD axiUm program and LTC charting digital charting platform
- Setting up armamentarium
- Examining intra-oral structures and head and neck of patients
- Scaling and or root planning to remove supra and subgingival calculus
- Polishing and fluoride treatment
- Topical application of antimicrobial agent
- Exposing dental radiographs as prescribed by GDP dentist
- Liaising with LTC nurses, care staff, family members with treatment plan
- Administering local anesthetic as required
- Documentation of post treatment notes into axiUm and LTC patient charts
- Communicating and referring oral concerns to GDP dentists, LTC nurses
- Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients, care staff, family members
- Provide oral hygiene products recommendation
- Taking photos and submitting teledentistry referrals for urgent triage of oral concerns
- Update mouth care cards for individualized daily mouth care plan
- Cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments and performing other related duties
- Scheduling next recall appointments and related administrative work
Consequence of Error/Judgement Errors in judgement could have an adverse effect on patient care and safety as well as affect GDP clinic operations. Must adhere to all UBC Faculty of Dentistry policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications Must be a registered Dental Hygienist in good standing with the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals.
- Minimum 5 years of experience, with experience providing care for elderly, frail patients.
- Completion of approved training in administering local anesthetics required.
