About the role
Applications are invited from teachers with
**BC Certification ** for the following teaching position:
Port Hardy Secondary School, Port Hardy, BC
0.50 FTE Temporary – Counselling
may be combined with JP 30
Commencing: September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027
or return of the incumbent, whichever comes first
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Master's degree in counselling;
- recent successful experience as a school counsellor at the secondary level;
- demonstrated familiarity with the BC Graduation Program
- knowledge and understanding of the cultural values, traditions, and language of the Kwak'wala speaking peoples – Indigenous ancestry preferred;
- the ability to work closely with staff in a team oriented approach to teaching and learning;
- strong formative assessment practices;
- knowledge and experience working with students with exceptionalities;
- training and experience in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Threat Assessment, Crisis Response and Suicide Risk Assessment;
- successful experience liaising with parents, school-based teams, external agencies, and community- based professionals and coordinating SEL interventions using a multi-agency approach;
- strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills;
- experience with RTI (Response to Intervention) systems;
- strong interest in innovation and inquiry;
- a desire to work in a flexible alternative learning environment; and
- ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices.
The starting annual salary for a full-time School Teacher position ranges from $66,299 to $116,016, with placement in the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The Remote Recruitment and Retention allowance is available for SD85 teachers payable at $3,126 over ten months.
