Summary
The Maintenance Technician will work as part of the Breeder farm team ensuring the company’s animal husbandry and biosecurity practices are followed. Responsibilities may include monitoring and regulating ventilation and temperature; ensuring water quality and supply; monitoring feed levels and handling live or deceased birds, collecting eggs and weighing birds. The Maintenance Technician will support maintaining of the buildings, equipment, and grounds and perform general equipment maintenance as needed.
Experience with general maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work, is required.
Schedule
This is a full-time position working on average 40 hours a week; on a rotating schedule. Varying hours, weekend, on-call, and holiday work is required depending on operational requirements.
Position Accountabilities
- Barn setup.
- Regular barn maintenance i.e., cleaning floors, garbage removal, culling as required.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Perform general maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Help set priorities and communicate with Breeder Farm Manager preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work.
- Repair, install, and maintain various electrical components, appliances and equipment in accordance with pertinent codes.
- Initiate safety concerns and make judgment on the best methods of completing.
- The ability to prioritize and time management is critical in this position.
- Ensuring water quality and supply are adequate and flush waterlines as needed.
- Maintaining the scratch area of pens.
- Support pest control and fly management.
- Inspect barns post-wash and test equipment.
- General cleaning and setting up of equipment and rooms.
- Assist with bird moves & vaccinations as needed.
- Respond to alarm calls.
- Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry.
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential.
- Practice bio-security protocol.
- Follow all safety processes and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent and/or post-secondary in Agricultural field preferred

Willingness to work with live poultry

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Experience in the agricultural industry and/or food processing preferable

A valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract required

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
