The Opportunity

The Career and Employment Services Branch is seeking one (1) permanent Career Service Consultant to provide support to the operation of the Career and Employment Services Office in Prince Albert. This position is with the Career Development Services unit, working one-on-one with individuals to provide career and employment services.

Career Service Consultants are highly skilled individuals with a strong background in career/employment services and adult training methods to help provide access to education, employment, and training opportunities to a wide variety of individuals in order to increase their self-sufficiency. Career Service Consultants work in partnership with community agencies and businesses to foster economic development and job creation. In this role, you will be working directly with clients to move towards employment.

Reporting to the Career Development Service Unit Manager, your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting client employability assessments, career planning and client case management virtually or in person in your community.
• Assisting clients through the Employability dimensions and career development journey.
• Collecting, recording and analyzing relevant data to make accurate and timely decisions.
• Communicating information that persuades, convinces, builds support, educates and promotes understanding verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
• Assessing client needs to make appropriate referrals to inform training and employment contracts. To support, design, and develop contracts with community stakeholders.
• Developing and facilitating workshops and information sessions for a variety of audiences.
• Accurately recording and documenting pertinent information in accordance with data standards.
• Some travel may be required to provide itinerant services within the province.

Our candidate of choice will have:

• The ability to apply methods, theories and approaches related to adult career counselling and conduct client employability assessments.
• The ability to identify and assess relevant data, trends and opportunities, consider a variety of options, and then determine and implement an appropriate course of action.
• Skills in ethical and confidential counselling and support services, group facilitation, time management, organizational skills, oral and written communication, and working as part of a holistic, multi-disciplinary team.
• Knowledge of current local and provincial labour market initiatives, information, trends, and economic issues.
• The ability to consult and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to establish partnerships, obtain, exchange and confirm information, establish and maintain agreements, identify solutions, and develop and maintain standards.
• The ability to plan, develop and deliver information and/or facilitate workshop sessions at a level appropriate to the audience.
• Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure coordination of holistic services.
• Knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of contract management and the contract management life cycle.
• Proficient use of computer hardware and software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM, Outlook and TEAMS.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be attained through a human services degree, diploma or a certificate program related to adult client counselling and/or years of experience in client case management.
