- We invite applications for the position of On-Call Program Worker - Early Childhood Educators (ECE). The current on-call rate of pay is $28.29 plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.
Qualifications:
A certificate or diploma in Early Childhood Education; valid BC Early Childhood Education Certification; certified Forest and Nature School Practitioner and/or experience in nature-based programming; minimum of five years current related experience (e.g. childcare, teaching, recreation, social work, community development; training and experience working with children up to 5 years of age; recent experience working with classroom teacher(s) to plan and implement high quality and effective play and place-based learning programs and environments in a school setting; understanding of Learning in the Primary Years; training and experience working with families in a facilitative role; experience in implementing the Early Learning Framework; experience in creating, planning and implementing for a parent participation learning program; working knowledge of Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, and relevant Microsoft Office Suite programs; valid Standard First Aid Certification with CPR; demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive, creative, collaborative and resourceful; ability to respect the confidential nature of all information relating to children, families, students, parents, and teachers; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; understanding of First Peoples Principles of Learning and inclusive practices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties are performed under the supervision of the District Principal of Early Learning and Child Care or designate. This position supports our Strong Start program and/or primary classrooms; collaborate with the teacher(s) to plan and implement play and place-based programming as well as design the learning environment; support physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children in the learning environment; document student learning; provide academic support, monitor behavior, and facilitate learning in the classroom and outdoors; adapt strategies to accommodate individual learner needs/styles; provide information to teacher for home/school formal and informal communication; establishes and posts a daily schedule of activities for the program with participant involvement; ensure that the activities are developmentally appropriate for the participants; develop and encourage creativity and language development; plans and prepares active, participant- oriented, circle time once or twice daily that involve stories, songs, puppets and props; makes connections with service providers in the community and facilitates referrals for families where necessary; makes connections with school personnel to facilitate a smooth transition for families into the education system; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; attend monthly StrongStart and school staff meetings; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
