Our Gentilly/Laprade location is looking for aBilingual Operational Health Physicistto lead and support radiation protection programs, provide operational health physics services, and play a key role in maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient operations across a diverse portfolio of projects. What will you be doing!
- Preparing, reviewing, and maintaining radiation protection procedures to ensure alignment with current standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conducting Radiation Protection (RP) program effectiveness reviews, self‑assessments, compliance inspections, and annual program reviews.
- Monitoring RP non‑conformances and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Developing and implementing radiation protection controls, processes, and procedures for assigned facilities and projects.
- Performing radiological work planning and dose assessments to ensure exposures remain within safe limits.
- Leading ALARA assessments and post‑work reviews to minimize radiation exposure.
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving radiological work permits, plans, and procedures.
- Responding to and investigating RP‑related unplanned events, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Reviewing and approving radiation source registrations, records, storage areas, and overseeing leak testing programs.
- Conducting radiation protection compliance inspections to verify safe work practices.
- Overseeing the selection, procurement, calibration, and maintenance of radiation and contamination monitoring equipment.
- Reviewing and interpreting gamma spectroscopy data to support radiological safety decisions.
- Providing technical oversight for decommissioning, decontamination, and radioactive waste characterization activities.
- Supporting the delivery and maintenance of radiation protection training programs.
- Overseeing internal and external dosimetry programs for staff and contractors.
- Leading radiation safety incident investigations and supporting CNSC audits and regulatory obligations.
- Assisting with oversight of subcontractor RP activities and collaborating with project teams to ensure alignment with corporate and industry standards. Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
-Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline (e.g. nuclear engineering, medical health physics). -Experience
- Minimum of three years of technical experience with a broad range of radiation protection instrumentation.
- Experience resolving complex technical challenges, from both a strategic and execution-level perspective. -Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in both English and French, with fluency in French.
- Knowledge of radiation protection regulations and applicable safety standards, scientific and mathematical principles applicable to health physics and radiological assessments.
- Knowledge of computer applications, including programmable data acquisition systems and scientific data processing tools.
- Knowledge of radiation protection instrumentation and monitoring systems, including knowledge of current and emerging technologies and advancements.
- Ability to technically review, evaluate, and develop radiation protection instrumentation documentation, including the work of other professionals and facility documentation, to ensure accuracy, adequacy, and compliance with the radiation protection program.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations, along with familiarity with applicable instrumentation standards, guidelines, and industry recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders across multiple functional areas, missions, and sites.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate technical data and findings.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to work to schedules and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based environment while contributing independently when required.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment in a regulated environment.
- High degree of individual responsibility, accountability, and professional conduct. -Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has**a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.**CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
- Required to don Radiation Protection (RP) Personal Protective Equipment & Clothing should the need arise to help troubleshoot RP instrument in the field.
- The work environment is a mix of office work and site walk-downs.
- Requirement to travel within Canada and abroad for the purposes of visiting other CNL sites and industry benchmarking and consultation.
- Willing to be classified as a Nuclear Energy Worker as outlined in the CNSC Radiation Protection Regulations.
