School District #28 (Quesnel) is looking for a qualified individual to join our district as a full-time Controller. Reporting to the Secretary-Treasurer, the Controller leads the District's accounting operation functions.

The Controller is responsible for:

• Developing and maintaining financial systems and records, including the chart of accounts and general ledger software for finance
• Reviewing budgets and expenditures at the school and department levels to ensure compliance with the overall District budgets
• Preparation and/or supervision of Ministry of Education reports and other financial reports as required
• Development and maintenance of financial controls
• Providing support to the Secretary-Treasurer in the preparation of the annual budget submission
• Preparation of annual financial statements
• Supervising finance staff and overseeing school based clerical staff on all financial functions
• Managing and overseeing audit functions and ensuring compliance with public sector accounting standards, Ministry of Education guidelines and district policies

The successful applicant will possess:

• A professional accounting designation (CPA)
• 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
• Well established organizational and leadership skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• A high degree of technical knowledge of financial systems and budget management
• Highly proficient with Excel and data analysis

The salary range for this position is $117,397 to $146,746 per year with a comprehensive benefits and Municipal Pension. Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons.
