About the role
Total Group of Companies is an industrial service company specializing in fire, rescue, medical, and HSE services. We have facilities in Red Deer, Alberta; Guelph, Ontario; and Winnipeg, Manitoba, and provide services across Canada.
We are currently seeking Safety Watch personnel for a plant turnaround near Sundre, Alberta, for a period of approximately 30 days. Under the direct supervision of the General Manager, daily task and activities include but are not limited to:
- Be familiar with the confined space requirements
- Be familiar with Air Trailers and refilling cylinders
- Provide support to ensure that all on-site personnel work in a safe manner and comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulatory/legislative requirements
- Before and during each shift, inspect the entire work area and look for potential release of flammable vapors or liquids
- Set up and maintain safety equipment as described in specific procedures. Inspect equipment at the beginning of each shift
- Participate in all pre-job meetings with an emphasis on specific worksite hazards
- Intervene in unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and stop the job if unsafe to continue
- Promote safety culture and safe work practices and take appropriate action to influence safe behaviors and to create a safe working environment
- Be aware of and support execution of the emergency response plans, and job specific recue plans
- Be prepared to operate fire extinguishers, hydrants, fixed monitors, and hose carts anytime
- Wearing and maintaining required personal protective equipment, ensuring that co-workers are wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment and that it is in good condition
- Maintain constant means of communication. Keep visual and voice contact with co-workers as much as possible
- Before and during each shift, inspect the entire work area and look for potential release of flammable vapors or liquids
- Ensure the safety of all workers that are performing work within Confined Space
- Continuously monitor for atmospheric conditions
- Notify control room when the confined space entry has begun and when it will be complete
- Fill out all CSE paperwork, Log all workers and equipment
- Notify ERT/Control room of any emergencies within the confined space
- Ensure the CSE entry point is flagged off or CSE signed secured before leaving
- Ensure all hazards, near-misses, incidents, injuries, and illnesses are reported immediately. Address all hazards before continuing with the job. Participate in near-miss, incident, injury, and illness investigations to ensure timely completion
- Provide site clean-up duties when not performing Safety Watch duties

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Authorized to work in Canada and possess a valid SIN
- Hold a valid driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle
- Be able to produce a clean or satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
- Can pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Testing
To be selected for this role, you MUST have the following certifications. Note that Total Group may assist with training in advance of the projects:
- Confined Space Entry and Monitor
- Fall Protection
- Respirator Fit-tested
- LEL Detection and Control
- Fire Extinguisher
- Standard First Aid & CPR
Salary: Wage will be determined in accordance with skills and experience.
Hours: Shift work – Up to 12 hr days and/or nights
