TITLE: Power Line Technician - Redcliffe (U26-074)
DEPARTMENT: Operations
WORK LOCATION/OFFICE: Redcliff
STATUS: 01 Full Time - Salaried
NUMBER OF HIRES: 1
DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Supervisor Field Operations, the Journeyman Power Line Technician is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
-
Work safely in accordance with safety practice regulations and procedures.
-
Maintain a safe worksite; this includes completing a hazard assessment and site work plan, correcting any unsafe conditions, reporting incidents, and supporting incident investigations.
-
Construct, maintain, repair, or troubleshoot the electric distribution system (both overhead and underground).
-
Perform live line work.
-
Draft switching plans and perform radial, system and substation switching.
-
Draft and obtain hold offs
-
Perform distribution operations, distribution construction, distribution maintenance, patrols/repairs, and trouble restoration.
-
Construction Readiness – including but not limited to placing first calls, PPO’s, booking third party contractors, backhoe, hydrovac, unit contractors etc. and the completion of a construction readiness checklist, when required.

Distribution Operations – prioritizing and executing operations workload including but not limited to SIO’s, trouble calls, pre route planning and escorting over dimensional loads,
-
Alternate Designate – Cable Fault Locating, Cable ID, Line Apparatus, System Switching, VLF Testing, Advanced Live Line, Construction.

Provide quick and courteous customer service for trouble calls or power interruptions.
-
Mentor apprentices and other team members.
-
Participation in a standby rotation is required.
-
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
-
Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment; this includes leading by example in promoting and applying safe work practices.

Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal customers and team members; this includes good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team or independently as an individual contributor.

Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous projects and competing demands.

Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.

Knowledge of basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
A journeyman power line technician certificate is required.
-
A valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
-
Business needs dictate that you must live within fifty (50) kilometers of the assigned service point office or a distance that allows a maximum forty (40) minute response time to the assigned service point office.
-
Participation in after hours and weekend standby rotation is required.
-
Travel away from home overnight may be required.
-
All successful candidates will be required to produce a current driver's abstract and will be subject to a criminal background check.

This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Participation in operations is required.

Participation on a construction crew is required.
