POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Health Manager, the Homemaker is responsible for providing
housekeeping services to program clients, while following established procedures and standards that require a high level of accuracy in observing, recording, and reporting relevant information.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in cleaning and homemaking services
- Experience with Elders, the elderly or vulnerable adults
- Experience working with indigenous communities/people considered an asset
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, with results acceptable to WFN
- First Aid or CPR-C AED (or willingness to obtain)
- WHMIS, FoodSafe (or willingness to obtain)
- Up-to-date immunization or willingness to get
- Valid Driver’s Licence, acceptable driving record, and personal vehicle with adequate liability insurance
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and client care
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
- Reports safety issues, behaviour changes or hazardous environments, including equipment issues, to Health Manager and Community Care Nurse
- Assists with meal preparations, light housekeeping, and laundry and linen changes as required in order to provide a safe and clean home environment
- Schedules client appointments, and knowledge of programs such as UKG/Nucleus
- Properly utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and masks, to ensure safety and hygiene while performing duties and to prevent the spread of infection or contamination
- Provides transport to and from medical appointments, grocery shops, and arrange pick up/drop off schedules
- Assists with safe transfers in and out of the vehicle
- Attend staff training and development as required, including educational training in consent, mandated reporting, and mental health
- Performs clerical tasks, including preparing correspondence and maintaining client records and charts
- Ensure the vehicle is clean, properly maintained, and stocked with required equipment and materials
- Report any vehicle defects, damage, or maintenance concerns promptly to the manager
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as assigned by the Health Manager

- Ability to maintain emotional and professional boundaries
- Demonstrates adaptability in care methods while consistently delivering high-quality care
- Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated housekeeping / homemaking skills
- Maintains clear, accurate, and timely documentation through effective note-taking to support continuity of care and ensure proper record-keeping
- Compassionate, caring, considerate and respectful of client needs
- Possesses strong communication and listening skills
- Open to learning,taking direction and feedback
- Excellent personal standards (appearance / health)
- Ability to work flexible hours, independently, and without direct supervision
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform transfers
- Working knowledge of the history of colonization in Canada and its ongoing impact on modern issues affecting Indigenous Peoples
- Working knowledge in communicating with Indigenous Peoples, demonstrating sensitivity and empathy, and awareness of how language choices can influence and impact conversations
The median salary for this position is $51,119.83
This is a term position set to end March 26, 2027
