Generation Plant Operator, Trainee - Revelstoke
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Revelstoke Generating Station
Employment type: Permanent Region: Southern Interior
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Field
Hourly Rate: $ 47.93
What you'll do
As per IBEW Collective Agreement:
- A qualified electrical operator who is responsible for and may have charge of the operation of attended generation plants
(Revelstoke, Mica, GMS, and Burrard), as assigned by operating orders, under normal and emergency conditions.
- Duties shall include monitoring, inspection and operation of electrical and facility equipment, preparation of switching and
operating procedures, and alarm monitoring and investigation.
- GPO’s can perform or direct operations to isolate and restore equipment and coordinate other related or relevant duties.
GPOs with an electrical ticket will be able to carry out electrician. GPOs with a Power Engineering ticket will be able to carry
out any work within Burrard that they are qualified to do based on their training, education, and experience.
- GPOs will be qualified, in accordance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) requirements, to
support Blackstart, Blackout, and Islanding scenarios. GPOs will act as a local monitoring station as defined by operating
orders when a loss of communication systems disrupts remote monitoring.
- The GPO is responsible for ensuring that all relevant work-related documentation, information, and records are updated
and maintained, and will be required to liaise with appropriate internal and external parties to fulfill their duties.
What you bring

Red Seal Electrical ticket.
-
Experience with isolating electrical and mechanical equipment for worker protection.
-
Strong safety experience in large industrial work environments.
-
Experience working for an electrical utility.

A valid B.C. driver's license: Class 5, or the ability to obtain one
-
Normal color vision
-
Strong ability to maintain professionalism under high stress conditions
-
Experience in the operation of large hydroelectric generation and/ or thermal generation equipment is desirable

This position is affiliated with the international Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW local 258) www.ibew258.bc.
ca
- The GPO Trainee is a qualified Electrician selected per article 18 (f) and hired for a specified location (Revelstoke, Mica,
GMS or Burrard)
- The GPO Trainee will undergo a training program of approximately six (6) months to a year to develop their skillset
towards becoming a qualified GPO
