PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of the Mechanical Technician Pump Repairman position is to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on a diverse fleet of industrial pumps and heavy equipment within a high-production team environment, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, effective collaboration, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Install and maintain standby diesel generators, switch gear, and industrial components
- Service equipment such as dampers, gates, fans, bearings, motors, pumps, manlifts, and related machinery
- Operate gas testing equipment and support Confined Space Entry Permit processes
- Perform isolations, lockouts, clearances and issue safe work permits on utility and process systems
- Assist in developing energy control procedures and safe work practices
- Support maintenance planning and equipment repairs
- Work safely in varying heavy‑industrial conditions including hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy environments
- Follow all safety procedures including required personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain strong attendance and punctuality
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Possess Provincial Certification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Red Seal Mechanic
- Be comfortable working on structures at height and be conversant with proper fall protection procedures
- Reading electrical schematics, blueprints and other technical diagrams
- Be proficient with the safe use of common hand and power tools
- Ability to obtain and hold a Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) D Card (course provided by CPKC)
- Must be able to effectively complete all assigned duties unsupervised
- On call every second week per Union Wage Agreement

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
