ABOUT THE COMPANY

ConeTec is an industry-leading provider of geotechnical site investigation services and specializes in the testing of subsurface conditions in unique environments. As a member of our growing research team, the Data Scientist Co-op will assist in developing and applying advanced data analytics and machine learning models to enhance our understanding of geotechnical data. They will collaborate closely with engineers and scientists to analyze large datasets, generate insights, and contribute to innovative solutions for complex subsurface challenges. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge geotechnical research and to make a meaningful impact in the field.

ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Technical

• Work closely with the research and technology development teams.
• Help utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to interpret ConeTec’s data.
• Help implement machine learning models into ConeTec’s data processing software.
• Organize and upload data to ConeTec’s database.
• Work to upgrade their skills on an ongoing basis.
• Contribute to and promote a respectful work environment and participate in effective communication.
• Effective collaboration with others inside and outside the department.

Health & Safety

• Identify with and respect ConeTec's safety culture, first and foremost.

• Ensure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job.

• Report any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Manager and the HSE Officer, immediately. Always know and follow the incident reporting protocol.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education requirements:

Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative discipline.

Experience requirements:

• Understanding of machine learning concepts and theory.
• Experience with statistical analysis and machine learning modeling tools such as Python, R, MATLAB.
• Experience with SQL and a deep learning framework such as Keras would be a plus. Basic knowledge of JavaScript/typescript/C# would be an asset (If you have any side projects in JavaScript/typescript/C#/python, do share the git repo).

• Must possess strong work ethic and represent the company in a professional manner.

• Detail oriented and holds themselves to a high standard of quality.

• Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

• Must be responsible and work well independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision. Must enjoy performing a wide variety of duties and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
