Position Overview
Reporting to the Corporate EHS Manager, the EHS Advisor supports health and safety programs across four facilities in British Columbia. This role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining COR certification, and advancing a strong, proactive safety culture across all operations.
This is a hands-on position requiring regular presence in yard and production environments. The successful candidate will work closely with operational leaders and a senior technical advisor, contributing to both day-to-day safety activities and longer-term program development. The role offers a clear pathway for growth into a more senior leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, including occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials handling, and permitting requirements.
- Maintain COR (Certification of Recognition) by leading audits, updating safety programs, and supporting ongoing compliance initiatives.
- Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors, including orientations and specialized training (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Fire Safety, TDG).
- Provide guidance on hazard identification, risk mitigation, and emergency response planning.
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for audits, training, incidents, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with site leadership to implement company-wide health and safety initiatives.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and industry stakeholders.
- Participate in and support the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills and response training.
- Support injury management and return-to-work programs.
- Contribute to fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and environmental responsibility.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
- Experience in health and safety within a heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining COR certification and a compliant safety management system.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and the ability to apply them in operational settings.
- Experience with incident investigations, safety audits, and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and injury management practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and maintaining detailed records and reports.
- Ability to travel within British Columbia, with occasional travel to the United States.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Salary Range: $80,000 to $120,000
This compensation range takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant training or education, business and organizational needs. Actual offers will be based on a combination of these factors, taking into account internal equity.

The Fort St. John yard is located at 9623 78th Street. This yard provides Industrial Obsolete and Demo Scrap Services, Demolition and Dismantling Services, Mobile Bailing Car Crushing and Shearing, Rail Car Loading and more. Truck and rail access are both available.
Our Prince George yard located at 1004 Eastern Street, offers much of the same great Ferrous Metal Recycling and Non-Ferrous Metal Recycling services as our other 3 yards. With services such as Stevedoring, Trucking Boxes and Roll off Container Services, Certified Destruction Capabilities and more, this yard also provides truck and rail access.
