Assistant Professor - Canadian Studies Program and Department of English Literatures
About the role
##Position description
Mount Allison University acknowledges, honours, and respects that the land named Sackville, NB is part of the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People who are the historic inhabitants, custodians, and dwellers on the land where our University is built and confirms its commitment to strengthening relationships with all Indigenous peoples.
Mount Allison University is committed to diversity and inclusiveness. We encourage applications from members of equity-deserving groups, including but not limited to racialized individuals, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of all sexual and gender identities. We seek candidates with qualifications and knowledge to contribute to the further diversification of our campus community.
The Canadian Studies program and the Department of English Literatures at Mount Allison University invite applications for a twelve-month replacement position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor (subject to budgetary approval).
The successful candidate will teach five undergraduate classes in person in English and Canadian Studies. The two English courses are “Introduction to Canadian Literature” at the second-year level and a third-year “Special Topics in Canadian Literature” course, focused on the instructor’s expertise. The Canadian Studies courses include a co-taught first-year course, a fourth-year seminar in Canadian Studies, and one additional class to be determined.
Candidates should have a PhD (or be ABD with an imminent defense date set) in English (Canadian or Indigenous Literatures), or Canadian Studies, or a related field (Cultural Studies, Indigenous Studies, Black Canadian Studies, History, etc.).
In their cover letters, applicants should describe their relevant teaching and research experience in literary studies and in interdisciplinary Canadian Studies. We seek someone who has the capacity to teach in both programs and is an active scholar of contemporary Canada. The successful applicant will join small and active programs committed to high-quality undergraduate instruction, with opportunities for collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous and Critical Canadian Studies.
Candidates should submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae in a single pdf file to Brittany Jones, Administrative Assistant for the Canadian Studies program at bjones@mta.ca by Friday, April 10. Two letters of reference from academic referees should be sent directly from the referees to bjones@mta.ca. Application materials should be addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee in Canadian Studies and English. Further materials may be requested later in the search process.
Please direct any questions or requests for further information to Dr. Andrea Beverley, Program Director of Canadian Studies, at abeverley@mta.ca
At Mount Allison, we are committed to ensuring your interview experience is as comfortable and accessible as possible. If you require any accommodations or adjustments during the interview process, please do not hesitate to inform us. Your needs are important to us, and our dedicated team is here to support you. Please contact People and Culture at hr@mta.ca if you have any questions.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Canadian and permanent residents should indicate their citizenship status in their application.
