About the role

Job Title: Safety Advisor III Location: Sarnia, ON Length: 1.5 Years (with potential extension) Rotation: 5 days on / 2 days off Role Summary Provides safety and health support to site leadership teams and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor organizations. Supports the implementation and continuous improvement of Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE) programs, processes, and performance. May also provide guidance on broader SSHE issues, reporting, metrics, and compliance activities. Key Responsibilities Develop, review, and update safety standards, instructions, codes, and procedures, formalizing them into company-documented practices as required. Review designs for new projects and upgrades to existing facilities to ensure compliance with company requirements and industry safety standards. Respond to emergency situations and incident events during or outside normal working hours, providing technical support, guidance, and recommendations. Participate in the development and promotion of on-the-job and off-the-job safety awareness and educational programs. Prepare safety-related articles, communication materials, presentations, and awareness campaigns. Deliver safety presentations and training sessions to project personnel and stakeholders. Act as a mentor and technical resource for junior loss prevention and safety professionals. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project safety performance and risk management. Role Scope Provides advanced technical safety expertise to project teams and site leadership. Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations, corporate standards, and industry best practices. Supports incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action development, and lessons learned activities. Promotes a proactive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement. Contributes to the achievement of project SSHE objectives and performance targets. Supports contractor safety oversight and interface management within multidisciplinary project environments. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline preferred. Demonstrated experience in construction safety roles, including prior oil & gas industry experience. Extensive knowledge of security and safety management processes and procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal. Previous experience working in multicultural and multilingual project environments, preferably within emerging nations. Demonstrated history of delivering strong SSHE performance on major projects. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships. Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and mentoring skills. Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and operate independently while adhering to company procedures and expectations. Willingness to travel and/or live away from home for extended periods as required. Working Conditions Field-based construction environment requiring regular exposure to active project sites. Ability to work in harsh and remote environments, including temperature and humidity extremes and locations with limited amenities. Changing priorities and work schedules may require flexibility and adaptability. Limited training will be provided beyond company-specific safety standards, procedures, and site requirements.
