This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.
Job Summary
This position assists professional planners in the Planning and Development department with on-going projects and public-policy related research.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Qualified individuals hired for a student Planning Internship will undertake and assist with planning-related activities pertaining to community planning, land use research, data and information collection, mapping, report preparation, safety initiatives, license reviews, site inspections, community consultation and other related duties as required.
- The proposed positions will provide practical planning experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Research, program and policy development.
- Demographic analysis and database management.
- Geographic Information Systems.
- Community planning.
- Affordable housing.
- Bylaw administration and enforcement.
- Community consultation.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements

Completion of two years’ university with current enrollment in a Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) recognized planning program, or a related field of study.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge and experience working with various standard Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Access.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member, using solid analytical and organizational skills.
Additional Requirements
Evening and weekend work may be involved.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $44,657.52 to $49,234.56 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
