Position Summary:
Reporting to the Lead Research Scientist (Plant Breeding), the incumbent will work closely with plant breeders to maintain and take care of greenhouse maintenance (including planting, watering, transplanting plants, harvesting, threshing and cleaning plant seeds, and some weekend watering). The incumbent is also expected to carry out some general lab and field jobs.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Ensures general greenhouse maintenance and plant care (including planting, watering, transplanting plants, and some weekend watering).
- Harvests, threshes and cleans plant seeds.
- Conducts emasculating and crossing of plants.
- Monitors plant health and reports pests or diseases.
- Looks after general lab duties: Media preparation, maintaining lab consumables, autoclaving waste, etc.
- Conducts some field works.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in life Science or related field.
- Laboratory experience; greenhouse experience preferred.
- Plant science experience preferred.
- Knowledge of plant care or pest management
- Able to follow standard operating procedures and able to carry out SOP under minimal supervision.
- Maintains good records of experimental details and results.
- Organized, accurate and detail-oriented.
- Self-motivated, goal-directed and responsible.
