The Ministry of Environment’s role is to manage the health of Saskatchewan’s environment in a responsible manner that supports sustainable growth through objective, transparent and informed decision-making and stewardship. We provide objective, evidence-based advice to decision-makers and deliver programs in a fair, impartial manner aligned with government-directed policy. The ministry’s Lands Branch has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Policy and Engagement Analyst. Reporting to the Manager for Landscape Planning South, this position leads policy analysis and engagement for the branch’s conservation priorities, including the Protected and Conserved Areas Network (PCAN) Program.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify, research, and analyze issues, and trends that impact/could impact Saskatchewan’s conservation priorities.
- Lead the development and implementation of management plans for protected and conserved areas included in the PCAN Program.
- Plan and lead engagement with other Government of Saskatchewan ministries and agencies, stakeholders and Rightsholders. This includes building and maintaining strong relationships with First Nations and Métis communities and with various stakeholder groups, including conservation groups, agricultural producers, and Saskatchewan’s industries.
- Support the development and reporting on key conservation indicators.
- Prepare written materials to support decision-making processes, such as confidential Cabinet documents and briefing materials, and policy and position papers.
- Provide policy advice to senior leadership.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have direct experience with Saskatchewan’s environmental legislative and regulatory frameworks as well as a basic understanding of theories and strategies linked to natural resource management and system-based, landscape-level planning processes.
The successful candidate will be a critical thinker and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and others to meet client and ministry goals and objectives.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a postgraduate degree in resource management, public policy, public administration, or related fields of study and several years of progressively responsible experience or equivalent.
