Sewing Aide – Laundry and Linen – Part Time
About the role
NOTE: Example of shift times are 6am-2pm, 6am-11am, 11am-4pm, 8am-4pm, 7am-3pm. You would need to be available as a part time staff member to work all required times. Please take these shift times into consideration when applying for the position
Duties
Transfer mending buckets from clean linen area to mending area. Inspect all pieces of linen and sort for repair or replacement. Record all items discarded (or ragged out) on standard form. Repair items with minor damage using the sewing machines, patching machine, or other means. Return all repaired linen to the wash side for processing. Alert the manager when linen damage appears to be increasing at an unusual rate so corrective action, if possible, can be taken. Manufacture certain linen items in consultation with the manager. Perform regular preventive maintenance on the sewing machines. Advise the manager when complete servicing is necessary (approximately once annually). Maintain the supplies necessary to perform the repair function. Advise the manager when repair supplies are needed. Maintain the mending area in clean, tidy condition. Assist with laundry help functions depending on workload Pretreating linen items for stain removal Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 or equivalent Meet physical demands of the job, including extended standing, walking, lifting and climbing using proper technique. Ability to operate a sewing machine
Experience
Sewing / mending experience required.
Ability
Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment. Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes. Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position. Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner. Behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position. Ability to perform work requiring attention to small detail
