About the role
Position Summary
Keewaytinook Okimakanak (KO) Health Services is seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Nurse to join the interdisciplinary team at the Six Feathers Clinic in Thunder Bay. The Clinical Nurse will play a key role in delivering comprehensive, culturally appropriate primary care services to members of KO communities.
Working within a multidisciplinary team that includes Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, Physiotherapists, and Social Workers, the Clinical Nurse will provide direct patient care with a strong focus on wound care, diabetic management, foot care, and phlebotomy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct clinical care to patients, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up
- Deliver specialized wound care and foot care services, including prevention and management of complications
- Support diabetes management through patient education, monitoring, and coordination of care plans
- Perform phlebotomy and manage specimen collection in accordance with best practices
- Assist in chronic disease management and health promotion initiatives
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic, patient-centered care
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinic program development
- Promote culturally safe and respectful care for First Nations clients
- Adhere to all professional, organizational, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) preferred
- Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with significant relevant experience will be considered
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Wound care and foot care
- Diabetes management
- Phlebotomy
- Experience working in a primary care or community health setting is an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous health issues and experience working with First Nations communities is an asset
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Working Conditions
- Clinic-based environment in Thunder Bay
- Interaction with diverse patient populations, including vulnerable individuals
- Occasional flexibility in scheduling may be required

About KEEWAYTINOOK OKIMAKANAK
Keewaytinook Okimakanak, which means Northern Chiefs in Oji-Cree, is a non-political Chiefs Council serving Deer Lake, Fort Severn, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, North Spirit Lake and Poplar Hill First Nations. The organization is directed by the Chiefs of the member First Nations who form the Board of Directors. Through its close awareness of community needs and its team approach, the Council advises and assists its member First Nations. The Council provides services in the areas of health, education, economic development, employment assistance, legal, public works, finance and administration, and computer communications (K-Net Services). The Executive Director liaises with the six Chiefs, with the staff of the Council and with other organizations and governments.
