ELEMENTARY TEACHER – OPEN COMPETITION
About the role
Job Purpose
The Classroom Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality educational programming that supports the academic, cultural, and personal development of students within the Kitaskinaw Education Authority (KEA). Teachers create safe, respectful, and engaging learning environments that foster student success while honouring Cree identity, language, and ways of knowing. Teaching within KEA is grounded in nêhiyaw (Cree) worldview and relational teaching practices, recognizing that education is a holistic process involving the mind, body, heart, and spirit. Teachers work collaboratively with colleagues, families, Elders, and community members to support student learning through both classroom instruction and land-based learning experiences. Teachers are expected to integrate Cree cultural teachings, language, and community values into their practice while delivering curriculum aligned with Alberta Education standards, the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS), and the KEA Teaching Quality Standard (KEA-TQS).
Education, Experience And Requirements
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent.
Valid Alberta Interim or Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate (minimum requirement). Teachers must provide a copy of their most recent Alberta Teaching Quality Standard Evaluation (TQS) Clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerability Sector and Child Welfare Intervention Check is
required.
Experience teaching within K–12 education settings. Experience working with Indigenous students and communities. Experience integrating Indigenous perspectives and Cree-based learning.
Working Conditions
Work hours are from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday
Required to work a total of 40 hours per week 10 month-based employee, with summers off per the annual operational calendar Required to Volunteer hours per school year May require occasional lifting of light office supplies and equipment This position may require travel to various locations for meetings and events. Participation in cultural activities, school events, and community engagement opportunities may be required. Primary location: KEA School and offices, with occasional travel to various sites. Must sign and adhere to the Enoch Cree Nation Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.
