The Opportunity
The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Seasonal Labourer to join our team for the summer. Under the direction of the Manager of Parks and Recreation Facilities, the Seasonal Labourer is responsible for performing general labour and custodial duties related to the operation and maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities.
Job Duties

Labour and Custodial
-
Perform custodial duties in facilities, such as cleaning of dressing rooms, and sanitizing of washroom facilities and observation areas etc.

Perform labour duties within all public parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, municipal building grounds, and other green spaces.
2.Equipment Operation and Maintenance
-
Operate safely a variety of hand tools and small equipment such as weed trimmers, push mowers, roto tillers, snow blowers, and other equipment of a like nature.

Operate pick-up trucks with or without attached trailers for the purpose of transporting material.

Perform pre-trip inspections, routine checks, minor servicing, cleaning, and basic maintenance of the equipment they are operating.

Inform the Chargehand or Mechanic of any required significant maintenance or safety problems of small equipment they are operating.
- Exceptional Citizen Service

Work with all City Departments and personnel to support corporate initiatives and improve the overall citizen service experience.

Interact with citizens, user groups, and the public in a courteous and professional manner, providing accurate information and assistance.

Perform a variety of duties, on a relief basis, within the following 2 positions: Light Equipment Operator and Parks and Arena Operator I (dependent on qualifications).

Provide support and training to other employees as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
-
High School Diploma or equivalent
-
Valid WHMIS/GHS Certification
-
Valid Class 5 or G Driver’s License
-
Ability to work in a parks and recreation facility environment and outdoors, which includes extreme weather conditions.
-
Confirmed skill in the operation of designated equipment and hand tools.
-
Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
-
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
-
Possess a positive attitude and a passion for delivering exceptional service.
-
Willingness and ability to work shift work, callouts and overtime as required.

Valid Class 3 Driver’s License

Confirmed skill in the operation of designated hand tools and equipment including but not limited to the following: farm tractors, riding mowers, ice resurfacer, plows and lawn sweepers, pick-up truck with attached trailer, off-road vehicle.

Confirmed skill in the operation of the Selkirk Pool

This is for a Seasonal Unionized position ranging from May to November 2026. This opportunity is open to all applicants. This seasonal position is applicable to union dues but is not entitled to any benefits or entitlement under the Collective Agreement except for Article 24.
