Centre College – Two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of History
About the role
Centre College invites applications for a two-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of History, beginning in August 2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in History or related field by the time of appointment. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who are committed to undergraduate education, will contribute to the depth of our faculty, support our flourishing student body, and utilize a variety of pedagogical practices. As noted in the Statement on Community, The College strives to create an environment where differences are celebrated rather than discouraged, where the individuals have the opportunity to exchange ideas and share in the richness of mutual experiences. We will consider any specialty but especially subfields in transnational, gender, African American, or Latin American histories or the history of science and technology. Candidates should have experience teaching a variety of classes, including the America since 1865 survey as well as upper-level courses. About International Committee on the History of Technology - ICOHTEC
ICOHTEC was founded in Paris in 1968 when bitterness divided the nations in the Eastern and Western worlds. The intent was to provide a forum of scholars for the history of technology from both sides of the iron curtain. It was constituted as a Scientific Section within the Division of the History of Science and Technology of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IUHPST/DHST). The first President was Eugeniusz Olszewski (Poland), with Vice-Presidents S. V. Schuchardine (Soviet Union) and Melvin Kranzberg (USA). The first Secretary-General was Maurice Daumas (France), through whose initiative the French government hosted the first independent symposium at Pont-a-Mousson (1970). Symposia have been held almost every year, and the proceedings of many meetings have been published, although in a variety of forms.
Whereas national organisations have their membership bases in their respective countries, ICOHTEC has its membership base mainly in Europe, but also in other parts of the World. Research activities, in which ICOHTEC members cooperate, reflect this special interest. The issues are investigated on a comparative national basis, stressing aspects of cooperation between various nations, regions or institutions.
