Choices for Youth Inc. (CFY) is a professional service, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and young families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives.**Our Momma Moments program is seeking to hire one (1) Full-Time, Community Support Worker.**This is a contractual position until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
The Momma Moments program is designed to provide holistic, wrap-around support and family-based interventions to youth-aged parents, 16-29yrs and their children. Momma Moments strives to strengthen family dynamics and economic stability through a person-centered model of Case Management and Family-Based Group Programming (Family Resource Centre). In addition to family-based support and interventions, Momma Moments operates 19 affordable housing units to single mothers. The Community Support Worker will work in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, Program Facilitators and the Housing Specialist by co-facilitating groups and providing basic needs support to families.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with Program Facilitators and Housing Specialist to assist service users with established goals surrounding; life skills, financial planning, education and employment, social supports, health, harm reduction, housing, leisure/recreation, and advocacy.
- Co-facilitate groups surrounding peer-to-peer connection, prenatal education, child-development/playgroups, parenting, life skills development, etc.
- Provide child-minding support for parents attending appointments and/or programming.
- Accompany and/or transport individuals to activities, appointments and/or programming.
- Assist the Housing Specialist with general maintenance, inspections and housing system navigation.
- Advocate with social services and other agencies on behalf of participants and in collaboration with team members.
- Work within a feminist, client-centered and client-directed framework, honouring autonomy for participants and their families.
- Crisis intervention and prevention work including identifying potential crisis and implementing prevention plans, responding to crisis as they arise (mental health, physical and non‐violent crisis intervention), and reporting all crisis to the Program Coordinator.
- Complete all necessary documentation and reporting using the organizations client database.
- Contribute to team effectiveness through clear and direct communication and participation in staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree or diploma in the human/social services field, Child & Youth, or a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Preference will be given to those with 2+ years experience working with individuals with physical/medical/behavioral support needs or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the barriers youth and young families face in our community.
- Ability to work from a person-centered, housing-first, and harm reduction approach, while embracing feminist principles and using anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook
- Current First Aid/CPR and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) training
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check
- Active drivers license and access to a vehicle
WORK HOURS
Hours of work for this position is 37.5 hours per week and flexibility in work hours will be required including evening and weekend work to accommodate various groups, after hours appointments for clients and to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements.
COMPENSATION
The starting salary for this position is $47,517.21 - $52,410.15 annually. Choices for Youth offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP, and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
