Job Summary**
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity within a complex, service-driven operational environment that directly supports students, schools, and the broader district community. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation and Central Stores, the Assistant Manager plays a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of fleet, transportation, and logistics services. This role blends operational oversight with people leadership—supporting a diverse team of approximately 40 staff while helping drive service quality, process improvement, and day-to-day execution across fleet maintenance, student transportation, warehouse operations, and district- wide delivery services.
The Assistant Manager is a trusted operational partner who brings sound judgment, initiative, and a continuous improvement mindset to a high- accountability environment.
This is a term assignment for 12 months
Responsibilities
- Support the overall coordination and performance of transportation and central stores operations, ensuring services are delivered safely, reliably, and efficiently.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to a multidisciplinary team including forepersons, mechanics, warehouse staff, and transportation personnel.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and district policies related to fleet and transportation operations.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to respond to service needs, resolve issues, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Support planning and prioritization of fleet maintenance, transportation scheduling, and warehouse/logistics activities.
- Contribute to the implementation of process improvements, systems, or initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness.
- Act on behalf of the Manager, as required, to support continuity of operations.
**QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience **
- Diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., operations, logistics, facilities, or transportation), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in transportation, fleet management, facilities, or logistics operations, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
- Additional years of experience in complex operational environments, unionized settings, or leading multi-disciplinary teams are considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support teams in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders
- Proven problem-solving skills and sound operational judgment
- Experience supporting performance management, coaching, and team development
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements related to transportation and fleet operations
- Proficiency with operational systems, scheduling tools, or asset/fleet management software is an asset
- Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset

The salary range for this position is $92,549 to $115,686 per year with a comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.
Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
