**Job Summary **Reporting to the Director of Employee / Labour Relations, the Manager of Labour Relations is a key member of our Labour Relations team. The position will be responsible for a portfolio and work closely with the team, Human Resources contributors and front-line managers/Principals supporting successful educational outcomes for our students.
This is a term assignment for 1 year
Responsibilities
- Conducts and oversees discipline processes and investigations, including allegations of harassment.
- Manages and participates in the grievance process ensuring that the proposed solutions maintain the integrity of the district and are within the terms and spirit of the collective agreements.
- Provides strategic advice to District senior staff including Senior HR staff.
- Supports all aspects of HR and develops positive relationships with the Unions, Associations, BCPSEA and other stakeholder groups.
- Ensures appropriate interpretation and administration of the Collective Agreement, Board Policy, applicable legislation and related contracts.
- Mentors and guides site-based management in Labour Relations and Investigative matters.
- Is part of the Collective Bargaining Team.
QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or a related field with a minimum of seven years of experience in employee / labour relations with increasing responsibility and complexity. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Professional certification or designation such as CHRP is an asset.
- Experience in collective bargaining and negotiations.
- Previous experience in K – 12 sector is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable provincial laws and regulations, especially related to employment and labour law.
- Knowledge of provincial labour relations environment including arbitral jurisprudence.
- Superior communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop excellent working relationships and establish personal credibility with individuals at every level of the organization.
- Ability to anticipate and assess potential risks, issues and opportunities from both a business line and organizational perspective and to make balanced recommendations for resolution.
- Experience in conflict resolution and mediation.
- Experience in conducting grievance meetings.
- Experience in discipline proceedings, settlement agreements and terminations with and without cause.
- Experience in grievance arbitrations.

The salary range for this position is $112,430 to $140,537 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension. Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
