Job Summary
Based in Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout, The Dangerous Goods (DG) Coordinator is responsible for Wasaya Airways’ compliance of Transport Canada’s Transport of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR), as outlined in the Company Operations DG Manual
Responsibilities
- Report dangerous goods occurrences to Transport Canada as required by regulation.
- Work with Transport Canada Inspectors to ensure audit compliance, including corrective actions.
- Oversee the handling of dangerous goods as outlined by ICAO, IATA, TDGR and section 6 of the Company Operations Manual
- Review regulations and update the company’s policies and procedures relating to dangerous goods accordingly.
- Perform duties as the main company contact for emergencies involving dangerous goods, aircraft carrying dangerous goods.
- Work with Transport Canada regulators to ensure dangerous goods training programs meet regulatory requirements.
- Update the company dangerous goods manual and update the programs pertaining to the receiving and transportation of dangerous goods
- Maintain Transport Canadas Client Identification database on behalf of Wasaya.
- At least once per calendar year, complete audit of each station’s dangerous goods paperwork.
- Instruct all dangerous goods training and any other relevant training as required.
- Assist any required investigations pertaining to dangerous goods.
- Ensure regular internal audits are conducted as required at each station where Wasaya Airways LP receives dangerous goods.
- Foster a healthy working environment and promote a positive climate within the workplace.
- Any other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Post Secondary preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role is an asset.
- Aviation or Cargo experience is an asset.
- Training and/or experience in the transportation sector of dangerous goods
- Experience in adult education is an asset.
- Excellent computer skills, MS-Office preferable, proficient in use of internet and email
- Able to work in a team environment, as well as unsupervised.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.
- Travel is required.
- Overtime as required.
- Weekend and evening work may be required.
- Hazards of the job.
- PPE required in certain working environments.
