About the role
Purpose:
Advancement at York leads and inspires meaningful engagement and philanthropic support from alumni and friends to advance the University's mission. Our division is comprised of four departments:
Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities.
Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over 360,000 York alumni worldwide.
Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations.
Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagement.
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Alumni Programs, the Alumni Engagement Officer will deliver programs, content and offerings that meaningfully engage York alumni to involve them in the life of the university to volunteer, donate, mentor and hire. The incumbent collaborates with staff from Faculties, Colleges, Divisions and colleagues within the Division of Advancement to create, enhance and scale programs that strengthen alumni connections to York, advancing York's vision. The programs that the incumbent develops, coordinates and evaluates have virtual, in-person and hybrid components and may involve engagement outreach to important alumni such as CEOs, founders, hiring managers and partnership with senior York administrators (Deans, VPs).
The Alumni Engagement Officer uses tact, diplomacy and cultural competency to engage volunteers from equity-deserving communities such as Black, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, etc. Engagement initiatives include but are not restricted to volunteer and ambassador programs, Alumni Networks, life-stage programs, on campus alumni programming, online communities, mentorship programs, awards and recognition programs, and student-alumni programs. Through these programs the Alumni Engagement Officer creates streams of engagement for development and places alumni into meaningful engagement/stewardship opportunities.
Education:
University degree is required or an equivalent of 4 years of recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Certification of Volunteer Administrators is an asset.
Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years of recent related experience, preferably in a non-profit or educational environment with an emphasis in adult education, alumni engagement, volunteer coordination, and/or event and program planning/budgeting. Experience in a University environment is an asset. Experience in volunteer communications and familiarity with Alumni Relations and Development is an asset.

Intermediate Word processing (MS Word)

Familiarity with specialized CRM databases an asset
Familiarity with LinkedIn an asset
Familiarity with online mentoring platforms is an asset (e.g., Graduway)
