The typical salary range for this position is $41 280.00 - $56 760.00 annually. The base salary offered will be determined based on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity considerations.

SUMMARY:
As a Food Service Worker, you play a vital role in delivering a high-quality, welcoming, and hygienic dining experience for all Metro employees and visitors at the Dundas office cafeteria. Working under the guidance of the Cafeteria Operations Lead, you will support the daily operations of the cafeteria, contributing to food preparation, customer service, cleanliness, and compliance with food, health and safety standards. Your attention to detail and commitment to service will help ensure a smooth, pleasant, and efficient food service experience for all.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support daily cafeteria operations, including food preparation, presentation, sanitation, and customer service.
- Assist in executing the daily menu, preparing meals that are nutritious, visually appealing, and aligned with dietary needs or preferences. Meet the guidelines for Metro’s Home Meal Replacements, Fresh2Go product lines, plus an a la carte menu.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all food preparation and service areas in accordance with food and safety regulations.
- Engage positively with customers, responding to questions and feedback to ensure a welcoming dining experience.
- Monitor food quality, stock levels, and service standards; report any concerns or shortages to the Cafeteria Operations Lead.
- Assist with receiving and storing food and supplies, ensuring inventory is organized and rotated according to first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices.
- Coordinate internal catering services for meetings, events, and special functions, including food prep and delivery setup.
- Maintain and replenish coffee stations throughout the building, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and functional.
- Accurately complete assigned checklists, logs, or records related to cleaning, food temperatures, and inventory tracking.
- Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented workplace culture through collaboration and professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or certificate in Culinary Arts, Food Service, or a related field is an asset.
- 1-3 years experience supporting catering or food preparation for large groups is preferred.
- Food Safety Certification required.
- Strong customer service orientation and good communication skills.
- Proven experience in food service or cafeteria environments (placing orders, served meals and beverages, exchanged money and used POS system to process transactions and credit cards)
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift items as needed
- Basic proficiency with general PC applications or point-of-sale (POS) systems is an asset.
