About the role
Purpose:
The Dance Accompanist provides musical accompaniment (piano and/or percussion) for academic activities including studio classes, workshops, and performances in the BFA Program in Dance, under the direction of the Operations Manager.
Education:
Completion of a post-secondary degree in Music Performance (Piano and/or Percussion) or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year related working experience as a dance accompanist for modern/contemporary and ballet classes.
Skills:

Advanced skills in piano and/or percussion.

Advanced skills in sight reading and improvising and ability to improvise in different and irregular time signatures and phrasings.

Familiarity with historical classical and folk-dance forms (e.g. waltz, mazurka, polonaise, etc.).

Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.

Ability to meet deadlines and organize time effectively.

Ability to understand and relate to others.

Ability to communicate with others to explain and share information.
