What you'll be doing
As the Director, Non-Trading Market Risk, you’ll join CIBC’s Liquidity & Non-Trading Market Risk team. You’ll provide strategic oversight on non-trading market risk measurements, including Economic Value of Equity (EVE) and Earning-at-Risk (EAR), ensuring robust analysis and clear recommendations for senior management. You’ll lead initiatives to evolve risk measurement and monitoring processes, collaborating with professionals across Capital Markets Risk Management (CMRM), Treasury, and business lines to drive innovative solutions. Your role involves developing a deep understanding of banking book behavioral assumptions and business strategies, providing effective challenges to strengthen risk management. You’ll deliver clear and impactful communication on complex risk topics to diverse audiences, perform comprehensive quantitative analyses to support reporting requirements, and foster team growth through leadership, coaching, and knowledge sharing.

How you’ll succeed
- Oversee Non-trading Market Risk Measurements – Providing oversight on non-trading market risk measurements such as Economic Value of Equity (EVE) and Earning-at-Risk (EAR) through in-depth analysis and to provide review summary and sign off recommendation to senior management
- Support Non-trading Market Risk initiatives – To lead in the evolution of risk measurement and monitoring processes, working in ad hoc teams with other professionals within CMRM, Treasury and the various business lines to provide strategic and innovative thinking.
- Provide Effective Challenges to Assumptions and Strategies – To develop in-depth understanding in and provide effective challenges to banking book behavioral assumptions and business strategies
- Effective Communications - To provide conceptual thinking ability regarding complex risks, with effective communication to a wide range audiences
- Provide Analytic Support – Perform comprehensive quantitative and/or model analyses to support the reporting requirement. Understanding of process flow and data elements required for appropriate capture of non-trading market risk
- Helping the Team to Grow - Demonstrate leadership and effective team management by providing coaching, supporting and knowledge sharing to the team
Who you are
- You can demonstrate experience. You have 7-10 years of in-depth knowledge and working experiences in asset and liability management (ALM), regulatory guidelines on interest risk of the banking book (i.e. OSFI B-12 IRRBB guidelines) and risk oversight functions.
- You have a graduate degree in Quantitative Finance, Business, Financial Engineering or a related discipline. Professional certification (CFA, CPA, FRM) will be considered an asset.
- You can demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills. You have the ability to proactively and creatively solve problems to move initiatives forward backed by strong analytical thinking and experience. You possess a high proficiency with Python, SQL or other programming tool will be considered an assets.
